Brand New
What it means: Factory sealed, never opened. This is the same product you'd buy at full retail price from Costco, Wayfair, or any major retailer — just at a fraction of the cost.
Why it's discounted: Overstock. The retailer ordered too many, and we bought the excess at wholesale.
What to expect: Perfect condition. Original packaging. All parts, hardware, and instructions included.
Best for: Buyers who want a flawless product and the peace of mind that comes with it.
Open Box – Like New
What it means: The original packaging was opened — usually by a customer who purchased and returned the item — but the product itself shows zero signs of use. It looks and functions exactly like new.
Why it's discounted: Retailers can't sell opened items as "new," even if nothing is wrong with them. Their loss, your gain.
What to expect: Product in excellent condition. Packaging may be opened or slightly damaged. All parts should be present.
Best for: Smart shoppers who want essentially-new products at 20–50% off.
Open Box – Good

Used – Good
What it means: Previously used with visible signs of normal wear. Structurally sound and fully functional, but you'll notice that it's been used.

How We Grade Items at Francis Retail
Every item that arrives at our warehouse goes through the same process:
- Unload and sort — Items are removed from the truck and organized by category.
- Inspect — We physically inspect every item for damage, completeness, and functionality.
- Grade — Each item gets a condition label based on what we find.
- Price — Price is set based on condition, retail value, and market demand.
- Photograph and list — Items are photographed and listed on our website with their condition clearly marked.
We don't hide anything. If an item has a scratch, we note it. If parts are missing, we note it. Our goal is to make sure you know exactly what you're getting before you buy.
Tips for Buying by Condition
- If you're furnishing a living room or bedroom that guests will see, stick with Brand New, Open Box – Like New, or Open Box – Good. You'll save significantly without sacrificing appearance.
- If you're furnishing a rental property, Used – Good offers the best bang for your buck. Tenants care about function, not flawless finish.
- If you're a DIYer or flipper, As-Is items are goldmines. A $2,000 dresser with a chipped corner can become a $1,500 dresser with $10 of wood filler.
- Always inspect in person when possible. Our online listings include photos and condition notes, but nothing beats seeing the item with your own eyes.
